Baptism...by fire hose?

Bizarre. Especially the comments of the one woman who comes every year and brings her children too…this church obviously doesn’t understand the purpose of baptism. What they all need is confession just like us. Personally, opening a fire hydrant for a purpose that is not intended to put out fires, should be fined. It would be in our community.

I am not sure about the hose part. It is, to me, a questionable use of someone else’s tax money and may affect the ability to fight a fire. and I am not even getting into the theology of it.

But, I love that the male leaders of the group are all called “Sweet Daddy.” Sounds cool to me.

The tradition of the baptism by fire hose started in the late 1920s, said Apostle H. Whitner, pastor of** God’s White House**. “We used to use the Potomac River,” he said, but the church’s founder, Charles “Sweet Daddy” Grace, decided to use a fire hose instead, “because a baptism involves sprinkling,” Whitner noted.
:nope:

Apostle!? The audacity of it…!

God’s White House? What is this, some kind of clumsy theocratic pentecostal set-up?

Those “baptisms” are completely invalid. This is what happens wheh you remove the “pillar and foundation of truth”, the Church, and let everyone have there own private interpretation.
Although many Christian denominations view baptism as a one-time ritual for entry into the faith, the House of Prayer permits multiple baptisms as a way for members to periodically wash away their sins and heal physical ailments. For many in the church, yesterday’s baptism is an annual practice.
Damisha Matthews, 33, a federal budget analyst, **said she comes every year, “for the redemption of my sins,” **and brings her two daughters, Mia, 5, and Aliya, 4.
If you have sinned since last year, you need to get into the water and be baptized,” boomed Apostle H. Thompson, next to Madison. “If you have a sickness and need to be healed, you need to get into the water and be baptized.”
“You heard the preacher,” Madison told the crowd. “If you want to go to heaven, let the waters roll.”
:nope:

Outrageous!

Very odd. I think they misunderstand baptism. If they want to bless the hydrant (can’t believe I’m saying this) and the water coming out and use it as holy water that’s fine, but I agree with other posters - theology aside - this is a waste of taxpayer’s money and illegal. Surely they don’t really think you can be baptized over and over, can they? I guess so.

Peace…

I’m dying! This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day.

I wonder if my parish priest would start calling himself “Father Sweet Daddy” if pressed. 😃

It just goes to show how shamefully people have turned religion into something meant to serve them, and not meant to serve God.
