After many conversations with my girlfriend, who is Baptist, she has agreed to get Baptised. She told me she was born again. She said that she went before her congregation years before claiming she has “accepted God” and now born again. I told her that is all fine and dandy, but she needs to get a proper Baptism or she is not going to make it to Heaven. Eventually I would like her to convert to Catholicism.

So my question is what do I have to do to get her Baptised in the Catholic Church?

OH BOY 😦

You know the decision is really up to her - she has to **want ** to be Baptised into the Catholic Church. You are wanting her to become a Catholic and she may well not be ready.

Just bear in mind that the more you try and wear her down the less likely she is to make that decision.

You will convert her by your attitude and practice.

you don’t do anything to get anyone baptized in the Catholic Church except your own children. She should also not ask for baptism simply to please you. Should she arrive at a point where she wishes to explore Catholic teaching in more depth she should go to her local parish and inquire about RCIA. Should she after a period of study, prayer and preparation decide to join the Catholic Church, she will be guided on what steps to take. Your role is to pray for her and model the Catholic way of life in Christ.

Don’t forget that she is probably already baptized, since she is a Baptist!

The Church considers any baptism that is done in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with water, as sacramental.

If she was baptized “in the name of Jesus,” then, yes, she would need to be baptized should she decide to become a Catholic.

Unless your priest is one of those trendy, “spirit of Vatican II” pastors, he will refuse to baptize her unless** she decides to join the Church.

**Otherwise - I am in complete agreement with Annie and Wannabee.

As far as getting her to be a Catholic goes, you should be a good apologist. There are two books the CA Apologists recommend in this situation. One is “How Not to Share Your Faith” by Mark Brumley; which I have read, and it’s great. The other is by Patric Madrid, called Search and Rescue. I haven’t read it yet, but it deals with bringing family into the Church. I’m planning on reading it soon, in hopes of bringing my MIL back.

Ruthie,
You can listen to Patrick Madrid’s Search & Rescue episodes from EWTN at their audio library. I’m on #4 myself. 😉
