I have a close friend who was raised Catholic, is now a nondenominational evangelical, and is being “baptized” into her current church soon. While I obviously don’t think the rebaptism is a good idea, it’s an important moment in her eyes, and I’d like to give a fitting gift. While anything blatantly Catholic would not be a good idea, I’ve thought about getting a non-apologetics book by Chesterton, Lewis, or the like. Alternatively, a personalized prayer journal might be nice. Any suggestions on specific books or other gifts for the occasion?

Not really. The term blatantly Catholic stopped me cold.

If you want to do something nice for her, pray for her. 🤷

I wouldn’t recommend a gift in this particular situation. If she was a non-Catholic, non-Christian, being baptized into another denomination, that would be a different matter. But she is a baptized Catholic already.

Not that you cannot give her a good book for a separate reason as a sign of your prayerful support and affection for her as a friend. But I’d avoid giving a gift to mark the simulation of a sacrament she has already received.
