What must a nonCatholic baptised baby who is say seven years old do if a Catholic parent realizes he or she made a mistake and now wants the young child to become Catholic and make his or her first Holy Communion?

Make an appointment to talk to the parish priest and enroll them in catechism classes. There is something called the rite of Christian initiation for children at parishes which will allow your child to learn more about our faith at an age appropriate level. Your child’s baptism in a Christian church is valid if it was done with water using the Trinitarian formula, but your child will learn more about making a profession of faith. As Christians, you can only be validly baptized once. The warranty is good for life. But Baptism is a sacrament of initiation. As Catholic parents we are expected to teach and enroll our children in catechism classes so they can fully experience what is means to be Catholic through the sacraments of reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Don’t kick yourself for waiting so long, instead bring yourself back to the faith as well, with making a good confession, regular mass attendance and reception of the Holy Eucharist. If you did not marry in a Catholic church, you will need to talk to your pastor about getting your marriage convalidated before you can receive Holy Eucharist. God’s peace as you make this valuable decision.

Donxyz,

The parent must know, love, and serve the Lord with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength. This can be expressed most fully by knowing and living all that is Catholic. The parent’s teaching and example are paramount. The Catholic faith is rich, deep, and beautiful beyond anything else because it has been founded and established by Jesus. Learn everything you can about the faith and pass this on to your child. Teach the child the meaning of holiness and why it is important that we be holy as the heavenly Father is holy. Get to know scripture and get your child interested in it as well. Your child will naturally gravitate to these things by the power of God’s love and grace.
