If I baptise my cousin’s child, can she also baptise one of my children in the future, or is this not a good practice? Please Help.

As long as that cousin is a practicing Catholic and if married is married in the church. Other then that there should be no problem. But you might want to talk about it with your spouse before making any promises.Because your spouse might have someone in mind also?

I hope that you’re not asking if it’s okay for you to personally baptize your cousin’s child – because it’s not okay (unless she’s in immediate danger of death).

The child’s Catholic parent(s) must want the child baptized, and must call his/her/their parish office to make the arrangements. Most parishes require an interview and for the parents and godparents to attend a class or two on Baptism.

I assume you are asking whether or not you and your cousin can be godparents for each other’s children. The answer is yes, provided you are both able and willing to serve and meet the qualifications (Catholic adults, fully initiated, living in harmony with Catholic teaching including that on marriage, not barred canonically).

What a blessed Gift to give your child and your cousin’s child. God bless you and Mary keep you.

Peace,

Gail

dfrazier,

Please explain you question. When you say “baptise” do you mean that you would be the one to pour the water and say “I baptise you…” or do you mean acting as a Godparent?
