Baptism Questions

I have a question regarding Baptism. I am an ex-Mormon and understand that that baptism was not seen as valid by the Church. I have been studying/researching/reading a lot on the Catholic Faith and have decided that this is where my heart lies. However, I did not come to this realization until after this past Easter. I have spoken to a few priests in my local parish and have found that I am not able to enter into the RCIA classes until September and be Baptized next Easter. I understand the reasons for the time between interest and Baptism/confirmation, but I would like to know if there is a way to be Baptized before that. I attend daily Mass and, as I said earlier, I am doing a lot of reading and studying; I can’t express the way that it feels to not be able to fully participate in the sacrifice of Mass. I’d just appreciate any suggestions anyone has.

What the priest says goes. Be humble and submit to their authority on this matter.

The priest, in consultation with his bishop, does have flexibility about when people are baptised. Normally it is Easter, but he can decide that there are exceptional circumstances. If someone is in danger of death, anyone can baptise (not just a priest).

I was a baptized Christian, trained as an Episcopal Priest, when I came into the Church. I was asked to wait from May until the following April to receive Holy Communion for the first time at the Easter Vigil. It was almost agony to have to wait that long, but in retrospect, it was spiritually one of the richest times of my life. The lessons in patience, hope, and humility were invaluable.

You can ask the priest. All he can say is “no”. You can then ask your dean, and your bishop. All they can say is “no”. If by September, all you hear from them is “no” then maybe you need to attend RCIA.

I will pray for you. I have a special place in my heart for LDS. I have a friend there I have been praying “in” for years.
 
I’ll keep you in my prayers as well. I know a couple of people that were able to get instructions directly from the priest at their parish, and were baptized without having to wait the year-plus they otherwise would have. Just keep praying, and ask God for the strength to do His will. He knows what’s best for you. 😉
 
And not to make light of it, but be thankful you do not live in the earliest times of the Church; it took three years then…

A good RCIA program is worth the attendance and participation. It is designed to help you to increase your faith, as well as gain knowledge. Know also that should one die while participating in an RCIA program (not that I expect you to), that one is buried from the Church as if one had been baptized…
 
I think you will be glad that you waited for Easter Mass. There is so much to learn and the RCIA program will give you some of that knowledge. And you will have so much support there!🙂 Being baptized at Easter Mass is something you will never forget and cherish the rest of your earthly life!!:angel1:

Also, I believe that the Catholic church wants you to understand and know what God’s church is all about and not rush into it.

Unlike the mormon church (my opinion) is to get you baptized as quickly as they can and ask questions later.🤷

A person already validly Baptized can be received into the Church at any time. However the Church generally only Baptizes adults at the Easter Vigil.
