I think I have already seen the answer to this somewhere on the forward. I am currently a practicing Mormon who is studying the Catholic Church. I know the Catholic Church does not recognize the baptisms of the LDS Church. However, I was baptized when I was a young teen by a Presbyterian minister and my wife was baptized as a child in a sect of the Brethren Church. I believe these baptisms would be considered valid. Correct?

Assuming that they followed the proper form and matter - I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (or Ghost), and poured water over the head (or forehead, or submerged in water), it would be recognized as a valid baptism.

I do not know if the baptisms of the Brethern Church are recognized, but those of the Presbyterian Church are.

My husbands prot baptism previous to being baptised mormon counts so I think yours should too. So he gets to be a canidate but alas I am a cataceumin (sp) someday I will learn how to spell that. But on the bright side he was a heritic and I was mearly a heathen so I guess its all good. 😉 Our R.C.I.A. guy had to look up my husbands prot baptism and made sure it was valid so the only real way to be sure is to ask you local parish.
