John said I baptise you in water and one will come mightier that can baptise in the spirit. Jesus said except a man be born again of the water and spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.

There were two baptisms. Of John and the one instituted by Christ. Did John’s followers have to follow Jesus? Did they not enter heaven If not baptised by Jesus’ baptism?
 
Acts 19:1-7

* While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior of the country and came (down) to Ephesus where he found some disciples. 2He said to them, “Did you receive the holy Spirit when you became believers?” They answered him, “We have never even heard that there is a holy Spirit.” 3He said, “How were you baptized?” They replied, “With the baptism of John.” 4Paul then said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”a 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul laid [his] hands on them, the holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.**(“http://www.usccb.org/bible/acts/19/#52019006-b”) 7Altogether there were about twelve men.
 
The baptism of John was to PREPARE THE WAY for Jesus. Now that Jesus has come & instituted His Baptism, which is a Sacrament, the baptism of John is no longer done. It was a temporary step done to prepare people for conversion to Jesus Christ.
 
John Baptist also mentioned fire, which indicates the presence of God.

IMO

This would have been God’s call. WHY?

Because God will; because God MUST make judgment based on what He GOD makes possible for us to know.

That’s my “Objective view”

My Subjective view is that VERY likely, it DID require Christ Baptism because John actually DID teach that
 
Repentance and the presence of God comes down to regeneration of the soul.
