There is a very short hymn (if that’s what you’d even call it) that is sung at my Mass after a child or baby has been baptized in front of the congregation. After the priest says: “(Child’s Name), I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”…then we sing:

“Amen,
Alleluia,
Forever and ever,
Forever, alleluia,
Forever and ever,
Amen”

I’ve tried to find this hymn, but can’t. I had imagined it was just called “Amen, Alleluia” or “Forever and Ever”, but I get other hymns that aren’t this one. Does anyone else know by what other name this one might be called?

I believe it is a Mass setting from prior to the 2011 translation. That might explain why you’re not finding it among the hymns. I’m digging for the name…

I think it’s from the St. Louis Jesuit Mass. If you have an OCP missal it might be in the back.

Bonnie beat me to it! That’s it - or was. This text was mandated to be revised or discontinued (as a Great Amen for the Eucharistic Prayer) in the 2011 Missal revisions. I couldn’t find it on the OCP website, but it is in the older hymnals. I don’t suppose there’s any issue with it as your parish is using it, although there are other approved texts/settings.

I hadn’t known it was either eliminated or revised. We use some of the Latin chant & I thought I had seen in recently in the back of the book. Probably a faulty memory. 🙂

Interesting. Never considered singing it after a Baptism.
:hmmm:

Thankyou for the replies! I found it!🙂 I found two beautiful piano renditions of it (just on YouTube), and a lady singing it. It has really grown on me.

Let me correct myself a bit…

Anything after Advent 2011 that doesn’t follow the text of the 3rd edition of the Roman Missal precisely isn’t supposed to be used. This one doesn’t work, as only “amen” can be used at that point in the liturgy (albeit, repeated ad infinitum if desired). That doesn’t mean it was properly eliminated from publishers’ offerings or music directors’ repertoires.
