Baptist accept I C?

Need some help with this one. My wife and I drove past a church with a sign in front that said “Immaculate Conception Baptist”. What’s that all about?

Chances are whoever named the church just held the common misconception that the immaculate conception refers to the birth of Christ, not Mary. I have known many people who make this mistake (including a few Catholics no less…). That seems to me to be the most likely explanation.

The only thing I could think of was that they might have made the common mistake of confusing the Immaculate Conception with being the birth of JESUS instead of the birth of MARY.

(Like confusing the Ascension with the Assumption, and vice versa).

Was this is a town you did not know? Perhaps the town was named “Immaculate Conception,” and the Baptist Church was just named according to the town (Like Greensborough Baptist, or somesuch)? Alternatively, I have read stories of protestant churches, especially Baptists, trying to disguise themselves as Catholic in order to trick unsuspecting Mexican immigrants into joining. Did it have signs out front in Spanish as well?

I once saw a church named Saint Mary’s Baptist Church. I thought it an interesting name to say the least.

Do you really believe if they wanted to deceive someone that they would use the name Baptist in the title?

OH, MAN! What a low thing to do! Don’t you think even the illiterates would see the light when the Church service began?

I’ve read the same same thing. Some will even have statues of the Virgin Mary in their churches. It makes them feel more at home. Once they get them there, they begin trying to “save” them. The hope is to get them to completely avoid the Catholic Church.
