I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed reading your story and I’m glad that you ended up here 🙂 …I’ve recently been drawn back to the Church.

I also found your article interesting because I’ve been having a debate with a Baptist on here, so that’s given me a better understanding of his views. I’m from England btw and although we do have some Baptists over here, I’m not acquainted with many.

Keep in mind there tons of different Baptist denominations, and some are very different from among them. I was a Southern Baptist and the ones who I found quite different from them were the United and Freewill Baptist. Southern Baptist and Independant Baptist are fairly close to one another.
 
I’ll keep that in mind… although to be fair, he didn’t say which ‘kind’ of Baptist he is, and tbh I really wouldn’t know one from another 🙂

Anyway, it’s interesting to see how other people view/understand what Jesus is teaching us… whether we agree or not.
 
One thing to consider is that denominations, here in America especially are changing so much because of relativism and the focus on bringing people in at the cost of doctrinal compromise. Southern Baptist 80 years ago would probably have a stroke if they knew what their denomination was going to look like these days.
 
That doesn’t really surprise me too much tbh, so we should pray that others will be guided to the Church too.
 
I enjoyed reading your conversion. Welcome. The Church Fathers are very edifying, aren’t they? They have converted many people. 😃
 
I am a cradle catholic and I don’t know what RCIA is like: how long is it? really — did it teach you very much? you went to two sessions of RCIA – same instructors? did they have any passion?

did other people turn away, as a result of RCIA? was it personal, or was it like a “class”?

your was a gradual, self-motivated turn to the catholic church. do you think old fashioned tent revival meeting evangelization is an option for recruiting people to be Catholic?

there’s so much emphasis on the New evangelization. all catholics are supposed to do it, but I have the impression that a lot of catholics are just weekend catholics. Maybe I’m wrong.

I’m trying to figure out how the Church in my diocese could possibly recruit the non-catholics in the diocese. I haven’t even seen them trying to draw people in. Even the population of priests isn’t replacing itself.

How could you go through the new millenium, with all the church scandals hitting all around, and still be on a trajectory to become a Catholic. What impact did that have on you?

are you scandalized – at all – about the casino trips, Las vegas nights, beer tents , etc. that are so standard in parishes? the dioceses going bankrupt owing to court settlements for priest sexual abuse. Do these bother you as they bother me? did your non-Catholic friends try to warn you about becoming a Catholic?
