I think there is sometimes too much tension between Christian groups in general. This happens not only between Catholics and Baptists, but also with some other protestant denominations. Each group thinks they are right and the other is wrong. What a great thing for Satan–causing all these divisions within God’s people. We need to stop being so wrapped up in ourselves and look to God and his Word. But I suppose that’s just wishful thinking…

Let’s use some logic here. If Jesus Christ founded His Church then any other church would be wrong - no matter how close? Correct?:yup:

So, if Jesus said He would be with His Church till the end of time then we can be sure He is with His body, His visible Church and guiding it? Correct?:yup:

So what this means is, any sect, no matter how close to His commands and His Catholic Church, is wrong since only the one Church is 100% correct. All others are therefor WRONG? :yup:

We are just pointing out the errors in their opinions and telling them they are correct when they are. Much of what they believe is true and good. Much of what they have invented as belief is garbage and we won’t even go into how much they have revised history or refuse to look at it. It is every Christians duty to share thier Faith. We are doing that.

When they are right we admit it. When we are wrong we admit it. But they often refuse to do anything but stick to thier opinions with or without fact and they care not to even try to attempt to prove them from Scripture or history.😦
 
Yep, I registered and found the Baptist-Catholic discussion. Interesting how they call our religion Catholicism. Maybe we should call their denomination Baptistism as well?
 
Yes, Jesus did found his church. If you put your faith in Jesus Christ and admit that you’re a sinner and can only be saved through his blood, then you are a part of that church. And Jesus said we must must deny ourselves and take up his cross daily and follow him. That’s the heart of the matter. And both Catholics and protestants believe you must do this right?

I just think that sometimes, we get too wrapped up in the ‘earthly’ aspects of ‘religion’–such as in activities and traditions, etc.–and forget that the whole point is a relationship with God and not whether we’re Catholic or protestant. I think we get so involved in saying “I’m a Baptist!” or “I’m a Catholic” that we forget that the real church is the body of people that believe in Jesus and what he did for us; not the building we worship in, or the name we call ourselves, or the traditions we have (so long as they don’t go against the scriptures).

Now, correct me if I’m wrong because I’m no expert, but do we not agree on the same fundamental necessities for salvation?–Aside from being an actual physical member of the Catholic church. Because as far as that goes, anyone could go through the motions and live the life of a good Catholic–or protestant–without any change of heart. That wouldn’t save them at all, no matter how good their lives looked on the outside. Because as you know, nothing we do can save us, only our faith in Jesus can. That’s why he came.
Well I’m kinda rambling now, but you get what I’m trying to say. 🙂

I don’t think there’s anything derogotory about it.
 
Hmm… by the way, if yall are reading through some of the stuff on the forums at Baptist.org–which I assume so–I just want to say again, that there are a couple people that are being rather rude as they voice their opinions, and I apologize for them. It’s rather embarrassing to hear them talk that way and they are not representing the whole in doing so. :nope:

He’s nicer then some. Check out “AV1611” there. He is downright - I can’t say antiChristian - ah how about the word, Baptist?

Thank you. That was very Christian of you. Taking up the cross for your brothers and sisters.

I hope most of us here know that not all members of thier sect are rude, vulgar, closed minded, ignorent, etc… Some on that board are very nice.

I must admit though, the rude and hatefull ones make it fun to go there.

Ya just have to remember that that’s probably the hardest room for any of us to “play to” and no matter what they say we cannot and should not return in kind. I just wanna answer with as much charity as I can and if I can’t to remain silent rather than disgrace the gospel.

All we can do is answer with the truth and kindness.

Years ago, to me it seems easily like 15 years ago, I attended a debate between “this Bill Jackson guy” and Karl Keating. He appreared me as an elderly gentleman. I think he is a Baptist minister.

The debate was quite civilized - no fireworks. I can’t remember the topic of the debate, but since Karl just started out as a catholic apologist it probably was about the differences between Catholicism and Fundamentalism.

Two to three years afterwards I learned that Bill Jackson had started this mission to evangelize Catholics.
 
I post on one of the Baptist sites and yes there are some dyed in the wool Catholic haters out there, I am sure if there was a chance to burn some bad ol’ Catholics there would be a rushing to light the first faggot:blessyou: …oh well it has honed my apologetics skills and I pray that Our Saviour wil cast the mote out of their eye in order to overcome their ignorance.
 
I went over there…it has to be the most slow moving ugly website I have ever seen…

Ours is much prettier 😃

I noticed while CA were down that there is a web site called Baptist.Org. There is a discussion forum just for Catholics and Baptists. I would like to encourage Catholics to register an account there in order to refute some of the accusations flying around there.
You need to register to view the Catholic forum at Baptist.Org, but it would be worth your time to clear up those misconceptions.

Thx Lily!!! I will. Have a few Baptist Pastors in my family—who are totally told how the Catholic Church is a false religion. What a shame. Hey who knows where in the Bible it says to beware, that in the last days, people will rise up against the Truth? And how there will be many false prophets attempting to leer others away from the Truth? I am so looking for it, as a relative this a.m. writes me to tell of of all the “X-Catholics” in their Bible Study.
 
I signed up and am posting over there. It’s nice to see so many “familiar faces” on that board. I don’t normally post on non-Catholic sites because it’s hard to be the lone voice. 🙂
 
I just wanted to report back about this site. The moderator over there named “bjjackson” seems to be the only active poster on the Catholic forum. Although he uses terms like “popery” and says the Church was founded by Satan, he is really an easy deck of cards to topple. I would encourage anyone who has it in them to post there to do so. He has a thread about the Eucharist entitled “Pizza or Cookie” and one about Pope Pius XII among others.
 
And, I have to say…Eden is doing an astounding job there, responding with a wealth of information without getting too hot under the collar. Well done, Eden! My prayers are with you.

I don’t need to read their forum. I listened to their hateful lies for 16 years. It saddens me that this is the example of Christianity so many people get.

That is why I’m not an evangelical anymore (I can’t really say I ever was one- I never got into it). Every Sunday, I heard “you better do this, or you’ll go to hell” “you better not do that, or you’ll go to hell” “God hates these people- they’re gay” “God hates those people- they’re muslims” (the Sunday after 9/11 they went on and on about the evils of Islam- I don’t remember hearing one prayer for the families of those who lost loved ones- I was an athiest then, so I simply thought most of what they said was irrelevant). Thankfully, I got to know some Catholics who took their faith seriously, and found that God wanted me to be Catholic, and that it was different then Evangelicalism, or I would still be an athiest now.

When I was student teaching I had a Baptist girl talking with one of her friends about how Catholics go against the Bible because they call their priests “father”. I set her straight on that, and the teacher who I was with appreciated it, because his brother is a priest.
