Hello Everyone!

I don’t know if this is exactly in the right subforum and I apologize if it isn’t.

I was curious if I needed to do anything extra or if I needed to inform my parish priest about this part of my spiritual background. It is a little involved but I will try to be brief. It goes without saying that I am ashamed of what I have done in the past.

So I was baptized when I was about 8 years old in a Church of the Nazarene, (accepted baptism by the RCC). I always considered myself a Christian growing up but things start to get grey when I joined Native American dance team and re enactment group in my local Boy Scout Council. We would occasionally perform native religious ceremonies where various spirits were invoked. These were mostly academic in nature but I feel that if I am to do this correctly, I shouldn’t leave out details.

Then when I moved away to college, I got in with some questionable friends and I more seriously experimented with paganism and the occult. I read a lot of hermetic stuff, a lot of Aleister Crowley’s works(mostly his religion Thelema), and looked into Asatru. One of my friends got a tarot deck and I frequently consulted her. I sought out a fortune teller dedicated to Odin at one point. I participated in new agey type pagan rituals and stuff that was more focused on specific entities.

I confess all these shameful things to you to ask if there was anything extra I needed to do while going through RCIA or if I should make my priest aware of this before it comes time for my first confession.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this.

You will have the opportunity for formal confession prior to being received into the Church. That would be the place to bring this up - but you’re welcome to discuss it with the RCIA director or a priest prior. That should be part of the RCIA process.

no, you don’t have to do anything extra necessarily. however, if you think it would benefit your spiritual journey, you can speakto your priest or RCIA director about it. or else, just bring it up in your confession
