Barbara Kay: Parents face scorn for worrying about letting their children change genders

This is important to know about, and frightening. Parents are being pressured into supporting gender reassignment surgery and other drastic measures, when wisdom suggests that a wait and see approach would be healthier.

Parents really should be encouraged to think for themselves, and not submit to groupthink where their kids are concerns.
 
All the scorn in the world would not convince me to let my son lob off his body parts. Not only that, scorn is free, gender reassignment surgery is not. Shame on these evil PC scorners.

Surgery isn’t an option until people are adults and it isn’t up to them anyway. Puberty blockers are not drastic and can minimize the dysphoria.
 
It’s not quite as simple as that. Getting pulled into a “cult-like” group that is supportive of gender reassignment can have a lasting effect on an impressionable young person.
Puberty blockers may minimize the dysphoria, but don’t seem to reduce the risk of suicide.
 
Same misinformation used over and over.

Dhejne: Yes! It’s very frustrating! I’ve even seen professors use my work to support ridiculous claims. I’ve often had to respond myself by commenting on articles, speaking with journalists, and talking about this problem at conferences.
