Whoo Hoo!!!

👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🤩🤩

Can you tell I like my local boys?

Is Bryce kicking himself right about now?

I’m concerned about the week layoff the Nationals are facing. When the Tigers (my #1 team) swept the ALCS in 2006 and 2012, both times they lost the World Series, in 5 and 4 games respectively. In both cases their opponents in the WS came in having just won a tough 7-game NLCS and had some momentum.

That’s been worrying me as well. I fear them getting “cold” without an opponent to keep in shape against. Not only a 4 game sweep, but their series starting a day earlier as well. Maybe Houston can wrap it up before the weekend and not have as much of a discrepancy between down periods.

It wasn’t such a big concern when the LCS was only best-of-5. In 1984 (the last year of the best-of-5) the Tigers swept the Royals in 3 games in the ALCS, then went on to win the World Series in 5 games over the Padres, even though the Padres went the full 5 games with the Cubs in the NLCS. I looked it up and the Tigers only had a 4 day layoff after sweeping the Royals (October 5 to October 9).

I guess all I can do for the moment is try to relax and just watch while it all plays out. Back by Wednesday, probably either crowing or crying.

How about those Washington Nationals!
I really like the Nationals. However it’s hard here in Canada to get away from the constant reminders that they were once the Montreal Expos whom I loathed.

President Trump has announced he will attend Game 5 at Nationals Park, if the series goes that far.

The Nationals have said Trump has not been invited to throw out the first pitch.

Not entirely sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it seems to be traditional to at least ask the sitting President to do a ceremonial first pitch no matter how wonderful or despicable you may think he/she is; on the other hand, they are a private entity and can ask whoever they want.

I guess it’s a blessing in disguise that I couldn’t afford the prices tickets are going for now even if I could actually find a pair, because the logistics of getting to and in the stadium on game day are harrowing enough just for a normal game; I can barely image how much worse it would be for World Series plus Presidential security.:crazy_face::crazy_face:

I hear you. Both times I attended games at Nationals Park with my friend Tom, we parked out in the Virginia suburbs and took the Metro rail to the ballpark. The second time around, it was a challenge to get back to our originating station after the game because of some closed elevators. (As you can probably guess from my avatar, I use a wheelchair; can’t do stairs/escalators.)

I have a little experience with the extra work that a wheelchair adds to traveling; my late first wife was 90% confined to one for the last several years of her life and we avoided Metro when we had a reasonable alternative, partly because of the poor elevator maintenance issues. We never tried to go to Nationals Park though. Definitely Metro to the Park for me these days (when I get a chance to go).

I think I probably have it easier than your wife (may she RIP) did; I have a sporty type everyday wheelchair, and I have good upper body strength. I avoid the phrase “confined to a wheelchair”; anyone who has met me knows it does not “confine” me at all. 🙂 But yes, even with the lightweight chair I have to contend with architectural barriers, elevators out of service, and the like. Most of my experiences on Metro, thankfully, have been good.

Metro has been trying to get back in shape with track and escalator/elevator maintenance in the last few years and I think it has helped overall. Still could be better of course.

I obviously can’t speak to easier or harder for the people who actually use a chair, my experience is simply in logistic planning and possible assistance when needed for specific maneuvers.

ETA: I am somewhat jealous of a couple who are friends of my new wife (just over a year married…) who have tickets for tonight and Saturday. They are season ticket holders and have let us use their seats now and then when they couldn’t make it.

Astros win all three games in Washington. The Nationals scored only 1 run each game. It’s the first time ever in the World Series, under the 2-3-2 format, that the visiting team has allowed one run or fewer in each of the middle three games.

The road team has won the first 6 games. It is the first time in the history of the MLB, NHL, and NBA playoffs that has happened.

Tomorrow night, the Nats can make it the first time the road team has won all 7.
