so I have it pretty good with scriptural or catholic apologetics. but what about for the basic articles of faith for someone who has no spiritual background at all like an atheist? like basic belief in God. Problem of evil. existence of an immortal soul etc. like I have my own experience that gives me faith but what for those that have none. what kind of philosophical explanations can I use to propose these things are rational or that christianity is worthy of belief as opposed to another religion or no religion at all?

Be careful and prepared to find that nothing will convince them. Atheists mostly follow nothing but reason, and by reason alone, everything can be doubted except one’s existence.

Perhaps by way of philosophers with a religious bent. Those who recognized and emphasized religious belief and faith as something beyond reason. Two Christians, Kierkegaard with his leap of faith and Pascal with the importance of the heart and imagination as a starting point for religious reasoning. I’m not saying this will work but if somehow a seed of faith can be implanted it might grow.

A good book is The Godless Delusion by Patrick Madrid.

In my opinion, only God Himself can convert anyone 😆 All the arguments in the world might not do any good, but then the person comes to have an experiential knowledge of God, or Being, or Goodness. Then everything changes.

Are you looking to convince someone in particular, or is this query more for your own knowledge and understanding? If the latter, excellent and keep on going. If the former, my advice would be to not push the issue, but pray for them and leave them to God. He will drag them to Himself in His own good time ❤️
