I saw and watch a BBC documentary on Jesus as Buddhist monk. As a Catholic. I do not have a problem whether or not Jesus was a Buddhist monk or not. But the document says Jesus actually did not die on the cross, he escaped and went back to Tibet again where he meditated and practiced Buddhism again. It is very disturbing for me as Jesus died for us on the cross and He rose again and will come back etc is the core belief of Christianity. So in short, I would like to know what is the response of Catholic Church on this? I tried to find on line but end up seeing more BBC documents on Catholic Church but not the response I want to see.
Please help me or guide me if you have seen any response from the Church on it.

There were many heresies going around in the Early Church that attempted to refute the death and resurrection of Jesus on the Cross, His low and high Christology.
The Catholic Church responded then with a few Councils starting with the first one called by Emperor Constantinople .

The BBC is pretty anti-Catholic, as many have stated. This idea, that Christ was a Buddhist monk, is nonsense. The Romans started the rumor that he didn’t die on the cross, or that his followers stole his body and claimed he had risen.

That doesn’t account for why his disciples would have died horrible deaths rather than admit to a fraud. They clearly believed he had risen, since they saw him. The Gospels are pretty clear on that; my best advice is to believe the eyewitnesses.

Thanks Viki, I also believe this way. But the Vatican is quiet about this document? At least for the sake of us, should make some official statement. I am looking for it.

The Catholic Church doesn’t waste its time responding to this bunk.
It’s about what one would expect from the atheistic BBC who’s always trying to undermine Jesus.
Completely made-up fiction.

Why would you think the Vatican is going to write up an official document every time some crazy person writes a book or makes a documentary claiming that Jesus didn’t die on the cross or Jesus was a Buddhist, a space alien, a fraud, etc? The Vatican knows what the truth is and doesn’t have to respond to every wacky theory out there. Furthermore, people who have faith in Christ do not need such a response every time they see a book or a TV show. They just say, “That’s ridiculous” and ignore it.

What the Church has taught for centuries and continues to teach today about Jesus already refutes the ideas put forth in the documentary.

The Holy See does not have to respond to every ludicrous claim made about Jesus or the Church. If it did, it would have little time to do anything else.

If the Vatican responded to every bit of nonsense out there, they wouldn’t have time to do anything else.

Dear Angel,
BBC is quiet powerful. They are wrong sometimes but they have done great works as well. For many people, BBC documentary sounds the truth. It sounds they discovered something important for mankind. I dont think it is not right for BBC to do like this. At least the Vatican should say something to us if not to the whole world that BBC documentary can mean a make up story or something like this. In the past, they have done similar things to this and that etc. And I am still thinking, our Church should say something about it for the sake of us. No need to sue or jump and argue, a statement can do. Here have to explain my friends who are Buddhists that the documentary is wrong. If it were true, why Jesus never told about his trip, what he had learnt etc.

By the way, I am reading daily bible nowadays. Somethings I am not sure the meaning clearly. If there any section here or any on line bible discussion groups to reflect on daily reading? It will be great if Catholic priests can lead and we can contribute our views, raise our concerns etc…Please guide me if you know anything like that.
