At Mass this morning , because our parish priest is having a break , our retired ex parish priest presided .

He is Irish .

He is no orator .

But at the end of Mass he spoke spontaneously from the heart , and what he said was simple , but for some reason it went straight to the heart .

He said , "Be encouraging . If there’s someone you know , someone in the family who is struggling , be encouraging . Encourage . And do it delicately . Don’t be nagging . Be gentle . Be encouraging . Then leave it to the Holy Spirit . "

He said this twice .

Then we sang the Magnificat .

It seemed like people needed to hear it , because we left church with a smile on our faces .

A few words from a wise man can change hearts .

Thanks. Fr. Thomas Loya pointed out in his program this morning that light shines brighter in the darkness and gloom. Sounds like that is exactly what your retired Priest did.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks @StephieNorthCo , and we have a stupendous example of all this being lived out in the life of St Monica whose feast we keep today .

Excellent advice—and way easier said than done!
Yes @0Scarlett_nidiyilii . Much more easier said than done .

I am finding it very hard to be encouraged at the moment .

I think many are going through a “dark night” .

But as @StephieNorthCo points out , light shines brighter in the darkness and gloom . I wish it would get a bit brighter .

It took me years to understand that a lot of people are not in the least bit swayed by reason or logic.
I used to think that if I just explained everything to them, they’d come around.
Haha
