At Mass this morning , because our parish priest is having a break , our retired ex parish priest presided .
He is Irish .
He is no orator .
But at the end of Mass he spoke spontaneously from the heart , and what he said was simple , but for some reason it went straight to the heart .
He said , "Be encouraging . If there’s someone you know , someone in the family who is struggling , be encouraging . Encourage . And do it delicately . Don’t be nagging . Be gentle . Be encouraging . Then leave it to the Holy Spirit . "
He said this twice .
Then we sang the Magnificat .
It seemed like people needed to hear it , because we left church with a smile on our faces .
A few words from a wise man can change hearts .
