How did Peter ever doubt God after witnessing the beatific vision? Isn’t it so great that it should overwhelm all doubt?

We are a fallen people. Being in constant company of Jesus, how could Judas betray him? Yet he did.

There is no real answer other than we have free will and pride is strong.

they still didn’t fully grasp the idea and concept of Jesus dying and rising from the dead. They were in fear of there own life and looking out for themselves

Peter DIDN’T see the Face of God or he’d have been assumed into Heaven
Author of Revelation saw a most glorified Jesus which wasn’t the
beatific vision

I don’t think so. Why would you think that?
The BV is seeing God face to face in heaven.
It cannot take place on earth because earth is material and God’s face is Spirit.

Looking at Jesus’s face, even a glorified or transfigured one, is still not what is meant by seeing God “face to face”.
