Just looking for discussion, sorry if this video/thread topic is similar to recent threads, which I don’t bother trolling through anyway.

The Feynman Series (part 1) - Beauty (~5 min)

A few lines that jumped out to me.
What we are doing is exploring, we’re trying to find out as much as we can about the World. People say to me, are you looking for the ultimate laws of physics? No, I am not. I am just looking to find out more about the World; and if it turns out there is a simple ultimate law that explains everything, so be it, that would be very nice to discover. If it turns out that it’s like an onion with millions of layers, and we’re just sick and tired of looking at the layers, then that’s how it is. But whatever way it comes out, its nature is there, and she will come out the way she is. Therefore when we go to investigate it, we shouldn’t pre-decide what it is we’re trying to do, except to find out more about it.
I can live with doubt and uncertainty and not knowing, I think it’s much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong
I understand that size has no relevance. I want to believe, no I DESIRE to believe. Yet I put myself out there in search for comfort, only to receive none… reminded how alone I actually am.

p.s. He notes an excellent discussion topic about bees being able to recognize color for pollination, so do they recognize the aesthetics within the flower?

Thanks a lot for the link.
Feynman is a favorite of mine in books but I never heard him talk.
this will constitute a very nice group of pleasant night auditions (is this the word?)

yeah i enjoy his lectures. he has lead me to the problem of direct experience. by this, i mean that the reason dogmatic tradition exists is because people are not comfortable leaving existence entirely to direct experience. almost as if people are afraid to make a decision based entirely on feeling, so they accept a system that gives them answers.

this is entirely subjective, and i am not claiming it to be true. however, it does bring up interesting points.

Beauty I’d say does in fact consist in a state of uncertainty. But therein, in that uncertainty, I believe you come to an even higher certainty. That is called ‘conviction.’
