I think what follows from “I don’t know/It can’t be known” is “Let’s not presume to know” which gives rise to my lack of belief ie atheism. I do have a slightly different view though, one which is softer as atheism than agnosticism would be. I don’t think it is categorically impossible to know whether God exists, just that as yet we don’t have good enough reason to believe.
This may sound pointless to you but do you believe in sin?You undoubtaly believe in evil.Is there no justice for a person who kills say your wife and children and gets away with it?Do you believe that murderer who never gets caught will never pay any price? This in no way proves there is a God but do you believe that anybody should be able to act as he pleases and its up to man to bring him to justice? And that’s it?

Archbishop Fulton Sheen said that if there were no God, the atheists would have nothing to “atheiate”. I found this argument very disingenuous, though the holy servant of God was just trying to be good-humoured. Chesterton’s quote about atheists is often thrown about, but it’s hardly a cogent argument. These men probably said what they said just to rile atheists. You must admit it’s fun to give their pride a good ruffling. 😃

Were there no God, atheists would be right. Messengers contribute nothing toward the verity or falsity of a statement.
