Becoming a godparent when confirmation hasn't been completed yet

I have a question…
I’ve been wanting to begin RCIA classes for quite some time now, and my brother has just asked me to become a godmother to his child. I’ve been baptised and gained my communion in the Catholic church, but I must be confirmed to become a godmother. I’m hesitant to register for RCIA classes simply because they completely don’t work with my schedule (I have night classes or work almost every night – which is when the classes are and my schedule changes frequently). Is there any way I gain confirmation through non-traditional means?

You have me confused. RCIA is for non-Catholics who want to enter the Church. It is not for people who have missed a sacrament (usually confirmation) for some reason or another. Because you are already Catholic and have been, presumably, catechized you should be able to arrange some one-on-one instruction with a parish priest or deacon to prepare for confirmation. You may not, of course, be a godparent until the three sacraments of initiation (baptism, confirmation and eucharist) have been completed, but RCIA doesn’t seem to be the answer to your situation.

Many parishes will have uncatechized adults attend RCIA classes as a way to help them grow enough in the faith to complete the sacraments of initiation. Some have special classes during the Easter season so adults can be confirmed at Pentecost (the preferred time for adult confirmations of baptized Catholics). You should check with your pastor/pastoral associate about what instruction is available for you to prepare to be confirmed and to set up an appointment to discuss your individual situation and needs.
Canon law states that a godparent or sponsor must be at least 16 years of age, and a fully initiated practicing Catholic. If married, they must be in a valid sacramental marriage and parents may not serve as godparents or sponsors.
