Does anyone know where I can find a list of bedtime Catholic prayers? :gopray:

This is what I say every night…

Saint Michael prayer…
Precious Blood, wash over me.
Hail Mary… Hail Mary… Hail Mary…
O My Mother, preserve me from mortal sin.

Lord, grant that I may pass through this night in peace. If I have forsaken prayer or done anything evil I am heartily sorry. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am thy unworthy and unprofitable servant.

By the sprinkling of Thy Precious Blood, O Lord Jesus Christ, and by the merit of Thy Passion, wash me from every stain, and cleanse me from all sin.

Oh Most Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

Compline is very traditional, and short enough that it can mostly be memorized over time.

We say several prayers from Father Hardon’s book of prayers every night. One by St Gertrude and one by St Alphonsus de Liguori.
 
You can say whatever prayers you choose before bedtime, but ALWAYS remember to say an Act of Contrition. You can’t be l00% sure that you will awake in the morning. You could be called while you sleep.
 
Lots of good Catholic websites with prayers for all occasions. I suggest doing a google search, also quick and easy to memorize prayers that strike you/leave an impression in the heart are always good. Here is my little routine and why for each prayer, just to give you an idea of my thinking:

1 Lord’s Prayer- I always start my prayer sessions with the way Jesus taught us, its the greatest prayer there is.
2 3-Hail Marys and “Preserve me this night from mortal sin” Because this is a great spiritual tool, the “3 Hail Marys” devotion helps us stay in God’s grace
3 Angel of God… I personally just liike this one, it gives me peace
4 Acts of Faith, Hope, Love, and Contrition (with a brief examination of conscience before the AoC)- I try to make sure I’m in the state of grace, I try to always be perfecting my relationship with God so that I can progress spiritually, and lastly I am in the habit so that if anything should happen and there is no priest, I can make these 4 acts and be at peace
5 A little prayer of thanksgiving- Because we owe it to God
6 Eternal Rest… A simple act of charity for the dead
7 St. Gertrude prayer- Another simple act of charity
8 Personal prayer- Here is where I just talk to God. I ask for many things, I praise God’s mercy, I pray for my family, my friends, my relationships, the country, etc. I usually offer prayers here to Mary and the Little Flower or sometimes St. Joseph or another saint. Here I ask for final perseverance and I often end my prayers in “Jesus’ name”
9 Glory Be- This is how I like to always conclude a prayer session

I want to add a prayer for priests. The little flower has a good one.

Now thats just me, I like sharing what I do because I like my routine. But I think whats best is whatever gets you closer to God. The two most important things that I think everyone should do is: 1) Make an act of love/contrition to make sure we are in the state of grace and 2) Ask for the grace of a happy death

When I go to bed,and I,am lying their, I usally say my Angel pray,I also tell Our Blessed Mother,that if I should die before I wake,take me bye the hand,and lead me to Jesus your son. :heaven:

Compline includes an examination of conscience and a penitential rite (you can use one of the options for the Mass, in private recitation the Confiteor works best).
 
I keep my bedtime prayers simple, I say the Lords prayer, Hail Mary and St. Michael prayer.

I don’t know of a list of prayers, but I learned these as a child:

Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day,
be at my side
to light and guard,
to rule and guide

Lay Me Down
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I shall die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen.
 
Ditto on Compline, but I also include the evening prayers in my Angelus Press missal, a Rosary and prayers for the Confraternity of st. Peter. Makes my day complete.
 
Nunc ad dormiendum me ipse iaceo.
Animam meam custodire Dominum precor.
Si moriar antequam expergiscor,
Animam meam accipere Dominum precor.
