Been on a Mission?

I was wondering who here has been on a religious mission…
-Was it a Catholic Mission, or mixed?
-Who you were with (group/order)? Single or married (that can effect a lot)?
-Were they pretty conservative or progressive with the church teachings, and did they do anything that could conflict them?
-Where were you (counrty, city, etc…), and how long were you there? How were the people?
-Did you like it and would you do it again?
-Did it have any effect on your faith/spirituality?
-Would you encourage others to do the same?
-Anything else…

And just out of curiosity, are there any missions that have the Latin Mass?
I am asking out of curiosity and perhaps it can help me decide if I ever want to go for a few years to get away from this world of excess …and it may help others too:thumbsup: …please share and try not to argue anyone else’s opinion or a particular group/experience.

I personally have not worked in the missions. As a Secular Franciscan, however, I learned that the Franciscans have one or two year programs for lay volunteers to assist the Order. They have an infirmary on the west coast in Santa Barbara, Ca. They also have retreat houses and maintain the old missions that were established here. The lay people work, pray, and share meals with the clergy,brothers and sisters. You might look into this.

I have been to a few of those missions in California and they are really neat…I would have to check it out more. Honestly, I would like to get away from California, I have been here 3 years and something about it just doesn’t sit well with me…however it could be a way to get my foot in the door since I am close to them???
