Beginning the wedding planning process!

My fiance and I have been engaged since August, after dating for 2.5 years. Later this week, we’re meeting with the priest at his home parish begin discussing the wedding planning process. There are a few things that might make us a little unconventional…

• We’d like to invite the priest from our university to marry us (haven’t asked him yet)
• I’m a convert…and a lot of our friends aren’t Catholic…but we’d like to have a mass
• We’re living out of state and wouldn’t be able to complete marriage prep in the parish we hope to be married in

We’re hoping to be married in the spring of 2011, so there’s plenty of time to sort this out.

This is actually quite common.Ask him as soon as possible because he will have to ask for permission to celebrate a Mass at that parish.

• I’m a convert…and a lot of our friends aren’t Catholic…but we’d like to have a mass

You may want to have a program explaining the Mass to the non catholics and reminding them to not go to communion and explain why in a charitable manner.

• We’re living out of state and wouldn’t be able to complete marriage prep in the parish we hope to be married in

Also happens fairly frequently. You will probably have to present a certificate of completion of marriage prep to the priest who will marry you .

We’re hoping to be married in the spring of 2011, so there’s plenty of time to sort this out.

Find out if there is a wedding coordinator who will want to see the dresses and other arrangements you make. Better to find out what is expected up front.
