Has anyone seen this on HBO? It offended me greatly. Liberache (sp) was such a bizarre individual. He told of a dream he had in hospital where a sister dressed in a completely white habit told him not to worry about his homosexuality God will forgive all due to his talent. Yeah right.

It is not pornographic visually, nothing below the waist is ever shown. I do not think homosexuals are monsters and I am sure that are not all that bad.

But Liberache was. He actually had plastic surgery done oh his boyfriend Scott to make them look as much alike as possible.

At the end of his life he had a press report say he had died of a watermelon diet instead of HIV.

He lived a very strange life, so if they were trying to tell his story as accurate as possible then of course its going to be bizarre. I don’t quite understand why you are offended though. Next time, pick up the remote and change the channel.

Don’t assume that things on HBO are historically accurate.

I was offended for several reasons. First of all the very inaccurate portrayal of Catholicism.
Scott actually asks Lee why in the world is he Catholic, and a sister supposedly telling Lee in a dream that all his sins would be forgiven due to his talent.

Even though the picture is not visually pornographic it still includes graphic descriptions of sodomy and includes a scene in an adult pornographic “bookstore” where some homosexuals go to have impersonal no name sex.

That is where Liberache got AIDS. I say Lee because I can’t spell Liberache correctly.

Why dont you just pray for your brother Liberace instead of dancing on his grave?

It took you the entire show to realize you were offended? 🤷
Yeah I wanted to see how it ended. All this happened years before I got my first computer.

But I am going to do a search on it to get a more realistic and less Hollywood portrayal.

This is a very strange answer Andrew.

It was an interesting, well-made movie about a couple of damaged men. I felt it was thoughtful and sad.

I did not see the movie and if I did I probably would find it offensive also. I did watch a couple of reviews about it. I was interested because I can remember watching Liberace on tv when I was growing up.

My thought is that Liberace went through a lot of trouble to keep the public from believing he was homosexual. The story is very one sided. I am not saying he wasn’t homosexual but we don’t know exactly what his struggles were because as I say the show is very one sided. We only have this person’s point of view. I find it interesting that the man who was claiming to be his lover sued Liberace for like $117 million dollars but settled for $85,000. Also, there were apparently many in Hollywood who refused to support the film but I think it is sad that after someone dies there are those in Hollywood who feel the need to show the world that person’s personal life, not having to have their permission any more and can say whatever they want, especially things that that person didn’t want the public to know. 😦

I, also, think as someone else said we can pray for him. He was Catholic and hopefully leaned on our Lord for help. :gopray:

Years ago on At The Movies, Roger Ebert said that movies are made to entertain. He said that in response to people criticizing a reviewed movie’s historical accuracy. I do remember two television movies that aired shortly after Liberace’s death.
I did not see Behind the Candelabra. His bizarre lifestyle, flambouyant and lavish clothes makes his life interesting for a movie.

It’s depressing that this movie and a lot of people concentrate on Liberace’s homosexuality as if there was nothing else to him.

Putting aside his sexual orientation for the moment,
Liberace was a very kind and generous man. All who knew him were very sad to see him go.
