What should the Pope say? A lot of athletes have refused to go to Beijing for the Olympics, a lot of CEO’s haven’t backed the Chinese games, and there has been civil disobedence (peaceful) all over the world against the Chinese goverment’s human rights abuses.

Should the Pope condemn the Cinese goverment for their dealings with Islamofacist terrorists and treating their 2 billion citizens like dirt (drinking from polluted rivers and living in garbage heaps), all in the name of profit and propaganda? For hosting the Olympics with a facade of peace and unity, while poverty cripples the masses and genocide is supported?

The country is formally ATHEIST. Prison time, torture, and even execution for owning a Bible.

The Vatican has a complex relationship with China. There is an “underground Church” with bishops and priests loyal to Rome, but which is not recognized by the Chinese government. And there is the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, recognized by the Chinese government, but not loyal to Rome. Its bishops have been selected by the government, but some of them have been making overtures to the Vatican for the past 15 years.

Rome is doing its best to avoid schism. I wouldn’t expect any harsh words towards China from the Pope.
