Can you help? I am thinking about apostleship and what it means. In discussion with friends, I feel a bit confused. The question was -Do we ( catholics) wait on the will of the spirit to present opportunuties to reach out to others - in say our work , or our daily lives?.. … or is more expected - Do we have to make those opportunites?

I found my self arguing that, ofcourse - it should be more …and then realised I don’t actually do this .

It is encouraging that you are thinking about spreading the faith.

It might be more precise to speak of discipleship than Apostleship as the Church defines Bishops as continuing the Apostleship.

My thought is it is always good to look for opportunities to discuss our faith. I think the more we become willing, the more opportunities present themselves. I often hear a word or two in conversation which shows someone has faith and is open to discussing, or sometimes just rely on an internal prompting to introduce the conversation.

Good luck !

Thanks, good advice , i’ll need to listen harder and be a bit more courageous:)

How important is it to be a Christian, a Catholic? How much do you care about others? Are you okay with what they will suffer not knowing about Christ and His Church?

When I was preparing for an evangelical mission to East Asia, I read a book called, “Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret.” In there his daughter recounts how on one occasion a new believer in Jesus asks Hudson, “How long have you had the Glad Tidings in your country?” “Some 1700 years or more,” he replied. The man said sadly, “Oh why did you not come sooner! My father searched his whole life for the Glad Tidings but died before you came.”

In my home town, there is a catholic church of significant size. The reviews on Facebook are quite positive. Nobody in my family has ever met anyone from that parish in a mode of evangelization. Our town is only 15000 people. I did once meet a man and his wife at the ice cream parlor and he mentioned he was a catechist, That’s not exactly an invitation–just a statement of vocation. I practically hung out the welcome sign for him to promote his church and no response. That is the entirety of my experience of Catholic evangelization in the neighborhood I currently reside.

I am encouraged people are asking about this subject.

suggested prayer:

“Lord, send laborers into the harvest for the harvest is great but the laborers are few. I volunteer myself as a living sacrifice to be used for your purposes in any way you see fit. Please keep me faithful to your work. Amen.”

A warning: God answers prayers!
