I did a search on what to wear to the Easter Vigil, but all I found were things about being baptized, ive been a cradle catholic, and am now just getting back into the church and being confirmed during this Easter Vigil. I know that its tradition to wear pastel and spring colors to the Easter Sunday mass, but I am stressing over what to wear to the Vigil. I am 19, and don’t necessarily want to wear like a floor length skirt, but I am not sure how appropriate it is to wear something knee length. Should it be dark colored? Light colored? I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much.

Katie

ask your director if there are any rules. perhaps there is a robe or something that is worn. In general a white or pastel dress or suit is fine. Stress modesty. Navy is also considered a spring color. just a note for others reading the thread, in some dioceses the priest does not have the faculty to confirm Catholic adults at Easter, so it is necessary to find out the practice in your diocese before making comparisons with OP’s situation. stress always ask your catechist or director specific questions about your program. if you don’t ask, they think you don’t have any concerns.

For the teenagers we required that they cover shoulders, upper arms, midriff and knees.

At regular confirmation the bishop is often seated and the confirmandi kneel before him, back to the congregation, so a longish skirt is advised. At the Vigil our adults stand for confirmation by the priest; so this is less critical. Check with who ever is running it.

im not being confirmed with other teenagers, i am in the RCIA program, so would we probably be standing? im hopefully going to find out this sunday, but i was just curious so i could have a little more time to look for an outfit

Nice “church” clothes are fine. If your style is more on the dressy side, choose a pretty skirt or slacks and top or a dress - no plunging neckline, bare shoulders, skirt too high or too tight. Think pretty 🙂

If you are more on the corporate style, a nice suit would be lovely as well.

You do want to be comfortable, so, I’d avoid any really pinchy or high shoes 🙂

Your RCIA director should go over all of this in your classes in the next week or so, or speak up and ask!!

Vigil mass at Easter is the longest of the year at my parish, so I tell everyone wear comfortable shoes even if they are not new. Many women feel more comfortable with nice slacks or a longer skirt because it removes the worry of sitting exactly right or bending a certain way. I dislike wearing a brand new outfit on an important day that I have not tried out first because I don’t want to end up pulling or tugging as I change positions.

Congrats to all of the people receiving their sacraments on Easter Vigil.

do you have an opinion on what color/colors should be worn? dark or light?

I just found out today that we have to be fitted this week for capes and gowns. They said they would go over what to wear under this Saturday when we have a full rehersal.

White is traditional, and simple is good. If you don’t have anything white, go with lighter colours, unless they don’t suit you, in which case, wear whatever best suits you.

Think comfortable and modest. Remember that you’re going to be kneeling, standing, sitting, and walking, and that the Mass will probably run to about two hours or so.

Don’t go on a special shopping trip unless you were going to anyway, even if it weren’t your Confirmation day. If you do go shopping, get something you can wear again and again; don’t let it be like a prom dress or wedding dress that never gets worn again.

The symbolic color for Confirmation is red 🙂

First, ask your RCIA director if the Parish has any suggestions. Then, pick something that is suitable for Church. As said before, does not have to be new - only if you really want a new outfit 🙂

I finally asked today. We had a full rehearsal today for vigil.
Father said any color was fine EXCEPT red. Wear something that you would wear to an afternoon wedding. Easy enough. 👍

i asked last week and she said that just wear anything that you would wear to any other mass… just nice “Church clothes”

I wore a longish black jumper dress that buttoned down the front and had a deep scooped neckline with a fancy white blouse with a large lacy collar under it and ballerina flats.

Congrats Katie!!!
What to wear?? I won’t be much help here, but I am sure you will look beautiful!! This is nothing to stress about, it’s a time of Joy and celebration and welcome HOME!!!🙂
