We recently hired a painter to paint our entire interior of our home (3 week job). He is very forgetful. He has left our garage door and house open 2 days in a row after we clearly discussed the procedure. He’s very nice and apologized. He also spilled paint in multiple places. He is older (he told us he was 65) and has painted 35 years.

My wife heard him openly speaking (loudly, she doesn’t snoop) to our handy man that he has memory problems.

The next thing he is painting is our 2 story foyer which has a lot of carpet under it. Do you think it is wrong to end our contract? His wife manages all the communication and tells me they have insurance. My wife and I go back and forth but we are concerned the white carpet gets paint on it.

Please pray for his forgetfulness as well as all those who have memory issues. I am very sensitive to this as my mother passed away last year after battling Alzheimer’s for 13+ years.

Thank you, and enjoy your day!

if you are not comfortable with the work a contractor is doing for you, you are entitled to cancel the contract. All these things are part of his job. Even with insurance you would be inconvenienced if you have to replace the carpet.

But leaving the house unlocked twice would be reason for me to cancel the work. Too big of a risk.
