Believe on the Lord?

I have heard this phrasing used by many protestant friends and acquaintances. What exactly does it mean to believe “On” the Lord, Jesus. Is it different from believing “In” the Lord? Is this difference a matter of semantics or is it somehow a part of Protestant theology? Is this use of the word “on” in this context in the Catholic translation of the holy scriptures? thanks for your clarification in this matter…or should I say, “on” this matter???

Im protestant and Ive always thought it just a “churchy” phrase.

I think its a fancy way of saying believe ON the promises of the Lord, lean on Him kind of thing.

“dont worry about your friends they will wait on you”

It could be a southern thing??

hows that for a weak answer 😃
