Is it wrong to believe that the dead can leave you signs of comfort?

I can’t answer that, but I know many people that have. Some will say it is just a coincidence. But I don’t know. 😉

If your beloved dead are alive in Heaven or in Purgatory, it is entirely possible that they are praying for you, and that God is answering their prayers in this way.

Those who are part of Christ’s Body are not helpless corpses.

And of course, the saints are well known for sending people various gifts and messages. St. Dorothy sent flowers from heaven, and St. Therese promised to send people roses (and she does!).

(That said, it’s usually not useful to hanker after such things on a long term basis. You need to love the deceased and pray for them, but not expect them to be always talking to you or be trying to force them to talk to you and make your decisions for you.)

Basically, it’s a “discernment of spirits” thing. If it seems good and the fruits are good for you and others, be happy and accept it. If it seems creepy and makes bad things happen to your heart and your good sense, or if it seems like a figment of your imagination, forget about it and leave it alone.
