Benedict met with advocates for the TLM this week. Exciting? Or not so much because he resigned? What’s your take?
Well, since you asked - I think it is much ado about nothing.Benedict met with advocates for the TLM this week. Exciting? Or not so much because he resigned? What’s your take?
I wonder if there is any chance he’d actually publicly celebrate a TLM. I can’t see Francis forbidding him from so doing and he does seem to be making more public appearances lately. Probably would cause too much of a stink, but just imagine.Well, since you asked - I think it is much ado about nothing.
According to the article Marti (one of the TLM advocates) had requested the meeting with Benedict in February 2013. This was that meeting. Marti chose to bring Cappocia (the other TLM advocate). No matter what he personally thinks, I don’t think Benedict will say nothing publicly nor allow Marti or Cappocia to bring his name into discussions.
My thoughts. YMMV.
I don’t think it would be quite so momentous. Benedict as Benedict never celebrated the TLM, but his OF Masses were notoriously inspired by its aesthetic, and as Cardinal Ratzinger he celebrated it at least occasionally – even using the old Holy Week rubrics of the early 50s, suppressed by Pius XII.I wonder if there is any chance he’d actually publicly celebrate a TLM. It probably would cause a HUGE stink, mainly because of protocol. Would the Mass be a Papal one or simply an episcopal one? Benedict XVI, being a shy person who was never comfortable in the limelight, would most likely not get involved in any such controversy. It would be out of character for him.PietroPaolo;12313694:

Publicly no (unfortunately), but rumor has it that he did so privately and regularly in the Capella Paulina.Benedict as Benedict never celebrated the TLM
