Was at Eucharistic Benediction presided by our newly-ordained auxilary bishop…EXCELLENT all around, maintained the beauty of it all…but I do have one question.

For the benediction collect (or whatever the “Let us pray, etc.” part is called here), the old ICEL 1974 version was used (“Lord Jesus Christ, You gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of Your suffering and death…”) rather than the new translation (“O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament have left us a memorial of Your Passion…”). My dad looked it up in the back of his Breaking Bread (in the back, they have the basic layout of Exposition and Benediction)…and they list the 1974 ICEL version too!

Anybody know what’s up with that? Does the new translation not affect other rites outside of Mass?

since the only the missal has been re-translated, the '74 version is still licit. The new one is also licit, since it is an official translation of the same original prayer. Both are licit, for now.

Btw, it doesn’t matter what is in breaking bread.

This applies for everything that takes a Collect from Mass, id est, the Office.

The rite is located in Holy Communion and Worship of Eucharist Outside Mass. However, since Benediction is, strictly speaking, para-liturgical, I do not believe that any specific translation can be required. I have frequently seen older forms used over the past decade or so, as well as the Latin.
