I am hoping someone can help me. I am wondering who these “Berean” people are. I have read some of their website, but I was wanting to get a history on them.

I person at work told me that they were have been around since the time of Moses. I laughed. Now it is my intention to waste his argument, the Berean organization, and whatever may be associated with it.

…that is to say it mildly.

If you read Richard Bennett’s biography, you’ll see that he “saw the light” about the Catholic Church when recovering from a severe head injury . . .
 
I couldn’t find Bennet’s biography, but if figure with all the fecal on he Berean Beacon webpage, what’s one more heap?

I really need to respond to those people in a way that will make a monumental mark on their Anti Catholic psyche.

I hope I can offer some un-solicited advice. Taking that chance, here goes. First, you sound angry with these people, second, never go trying to “waste” anyone’s ideas or opinions. This will only hurt your cause. Rather, state your case and calmly and with charity defend your case. Remember, the people you are dealing with are just as convinced that they are right and feel secure in their “truth” as you feel in Truth. Also remember that they or most of them really do think it to be an act of charity to witness to us “poor, duped Catholics.” Bearing that in mind realize that many of these people actually mean well and lastly, remember your chosen name for this forum and ask Mary to interceed for them. I hope this helps and that you’ll step back, calm down and look at the situation objectively. I am not smarter or in any way wiser than you are and I believe you will be a benefit to someone with whom you share your faith, but I just wanted to offer my advice because I’ve been in your shoes. I am a convert to the Catholic faith and used to be a “fundamentalist.” It isn’t easy to overcome but with God’s grace it can be done. I also have hurt more people than helping them whenever I tried to “set them straight” on any given issue pertaining to the Catholic faith so that is where all this is coming from…my heart. Last Spring I first heard of Bereans. It was a Church of Christ group that told me about it. All they could do was to ridicule my questions by tossing the word Berean at me ( as if they had a secret family joke). What I found was they, the Bereans, were a heritical sect. They started sometime near the 4th Century. If some of you know better, please tell us.

There are no heretical sects from that period that continue today like most existing sects they are protestant in nature or offshoots like Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses

THe Berean’s today usually belong to the Berean Fundamental Church its basically a fundametlaist protestant sect.

My handbook of denominations says this: "In the mid 1930’s, Dr. Ivan E. Olsen became the first pastor of an independant church, the Berean Fundamental Church in North Platte, Nebraska. Following, the biblical principles of evangelism found in Acts 1:8, Olsen assisted in planting 16 churches in surrounding communities.
This is hardly early christianity here.😉

The bereans :rotfl: . Just another Sola Scriptura sect
 
I grew up in a church called Berean Baptist Church. It was the same as any other Protestant church. Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, the Soviet Union is the beast, Santa Claus is Satanic blah blah blah. It grew to mamoth size and changed to look like a giant UFO blah blah blah. All the pastors fell into some sort of adultery scandal or other blah blah blah. :whacky:

You forgot the catholic church as the whore of Babylone. Man if I had a dollar for everytime I heard that one I could go on a world wide vacation.

The Bereans were from a Judean town of Berea!
What follows is not overly relevant to our inquiry here, aside from the fact that an uproar ensues, and Paul and Silas are forced out of town, leading them to Berea. In contrast with the jealous Jews who had stirred up trouble, Luke tells us that those in Berea were more “noble-minded.” Rather than stirring up trouble, they eagerly listened to the message of Paul and Silas. At this point, however, we need to look closely at the text. The term “noble minded” is euvgene,steroi, which is the adjectival comparative form. Luke is making a contrast between the attitude of the Thessalonians and that of the Bereans. As F.F. Bruce points out in his commentary on Acts, the term originally referred to nobility, but eventually came to mean “open minded.” How did they show their open-mindedness? They did so by eagerly receiving the message of the Apostles, daily examining the Scriptures to see if what they were receiving was in accordance with God’s truth. The Greek text indicates that these were not two different activities: the receiving of the message and the searching of the Scriptures on a daily basis are one action in Luke’s description. The “daily examining the Scriptures” is a description of the means by which the Bereans received the word of the Apostles. A.T. Robertson points out that the term “searching” as in “searching the Scriptures” (avnakri,nontej) means "to sift up and down, make careful and exact research as in legal precesses as in Ac 4:9; 12:19, etc.).aomin.org/This%20Bereans%20passage.html

Sorry Exporter, Berea (actually pronounced Veria) is a city in Northern Greece and interestingly enough the church there is Orthodox 😃
