Besides St. Isaac of Syria, are there any Saints AFTER the 5th Century THat the FOur Apostolic Churches can get behind?

St. Isaac of Syria is Venerated in:

ACE
OO
EO
CC

Any other Saints that are THIS all-encompassing?

Yes.

The Apostles.

Mary.

St. Paul.

And many others.
 
AFTER THE 5th Century…

COme on apollos, it is reasonable to reduce the other apostolic Churches into one of these four communions.
 
The question you raise is a fascinating hagiographical one.

In fact, when one comes right down to it, there is only one post-Apostolic martyr who is venerated in ALL Christian Churches - St George. This means that there is no local Church anywhere in the world that would not have him in its calendar (Fr. Howeck, Dictionary of the Saints, 1924).

As for St Isaac of Nineveh, he became popular largely through his spiritual writings. There are SS. Basil the Great, John Chrysostom and others who would be very widely honoured in the East as well.

It is customary to define non-standard abbreviations when they are first used.

OO = Oriental Orthodox
EO = Eastern Orthodox
CC = Catholic Church

ACE: Assyrian Church of the East. (The non-catholic parallel of the Chaldean Catholic Church)
 
Actually, the Assyrians do indeed call themselves the “Assyrian Catholic Church of the East.”

If Oriental Christians may call themselves, “Orthodox,” then why can’t Assyrians (who are now in total agreement on the score of orthodox Christology) call themselves “Catholic?”

Any other suggestions? Any universal saints after the 6th century? Besides Isaac of Syria? If not, think what a category he stands alone in!

An interesting aside. St Issac is one of the few later saints universally venerated by all of the Apostolic Churches. He also was a proponent of universal salvation, a position none of them accept. Just thinking…:cool:
