Just what the title says; what are some good books you know of that cover the topic of virtues. More specifically, what are they and how do we grow in them?

Cheers!

12 Steps to Holiness and Salvation by Alphonsus Liguori and the Spiritual Combat.

I’ve heard of this one, does it explain how to practically live those virtues, or just theoretical stuff?

Stanley Hauerwas writes extensively on the role of virtue and character formation in the Christian life.

I second the recommendation of the Kreeft book. Also, Guardini’s Learning the Virtues That Lead You to God is excellent, one of my favorites.

St. Francis de Sales, Introduction to the Devout LIfe

This book is about how to live a Catholic life practically. It focuses on the practical application of virtue and how to grow in it.

The only draw back would be finding a good unabridged translation. It was taken up by protestants as soon as it was written and edited heavily,. The Ryan translation is good, if a little dense at times. I’ve also found a translation by Fr. John-Julian, an Episcopal monk, to be very, very good.
