What are the best Catholic objects for conversion? Certain relics? Green scapulars? Simply a Bible? I’m trying to think of some things to hide at my devout anti-Catholic grandparents house (secular Jews). Thanks!

I don’t think any objects are going to do it. If they’re willing to read some, I’d suggest: Salvation is from the Jews.

This book examines Judaism and how it prefigures all of Christianity, and how Jesus fulfills the old covenant’s promise of a Messiah.

There’s also Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, which examines how Jesus’ sacrifice is the perfection of the Passover sacrifice.

The best “object” is a joyful Catholic living a life of faith.

Yes but I’m leaving town and want to leave something in their house

Traditionally, one would put a green scapular near the person. But one must be careful not to see this as a “magic charm”.

I think being an active practitioner of your own faith, mentioning from time to time to the person (more often if they are close to you and don’t mind hearing about it, than if they are further away and do mind) and most of all PRAYING for the person’s conversion are the best ways to go about it. I might put a green scapular near my husband, but I am doing all these other things too, so it’s not like I’m expecting the scapular to cast a spell on him.

try a Miraculous Medal, and entrust your grandparents to Jesus through Mary.

Maybe I am just not up on my folk Catholicism, but I don’t see how hiding an object in someone’s house is going to do anything for them at all. If you want to ask God to touch their hearts, then do that. Pray. Ask St. Paul and other notable converts to join you. Don’t fall into superstition. Not only is it bad for you, it certainly isn’t going to project a positive image of the Faith if your “targets” find out you’re hiding things about their house in an attempt to turn them Catholic!

Leave your love, your prayers, and your sacrifices for them.

I note that you are supposed to also pray in connection with the Green Scapular. The suggested prayer is one to the Immaculata. Here is a traditional Catholic webpage discussing the Green Scapular.

Please also see my post above about how it is not a “magic charm” and one should also be praying, setting a good Catholic example, discussing one’s faith with the potential convert, etc.

Some people are uncomfortable with sacramentals and if that is the case, then you can just pray and not use the sacramental. Others of us are not uncomfortable with using them as an aid to prayer. They are always used as an AID to prayer and spirituality, not as a “magic charm” where you just hide it under their pillow and poof they become a Catholic. It is perhaps a fine distinction, which is why I say, if you’re not comfortable with it, you don’t have to use it.

So long as that’s the attitude (the Church’s) which you take, it’s all good.

Some people end up abusing sacramentals in a superstitious way though, which is what is cautioned.

Take some holy water with you. Sprinkle that water in each room while asking Jesus to bless that house and to convert your grandparents. 😃. That way you don’t have to hide anything. Oh and pray a rosary every day for their conversion.
