But Ez 16 23–41 is absolutely savage. Zeke goes hard man.
Isaiah has some good tirades, but second Isaiah had some of the most beautiful passages in the Old Testament, so that’s more what I associate him with. “Can a mother forget her infant? be without tenderness to the child of her womb? Even if she does, I will never forget you.” I know everyone knows that one, but it’s just so powerful. The question is rhetorical; the answer is no. But then the oracle shifts from consideration of “mother” in the abstract to consideration in the real world. Some mothers, sadly, do abandon their children and are unkind to them. But God is always God whether you talk about him in the abstract or the particular. When we are disappointed by those who should love us most, we should remember that God’s love is eternal and transcendent, and we need never despair of it.
What about you guys? do you prefer the beatdowns or the more redemptive oracles…? Obviously we have to give top place to the messianic ones, but among the reat
