I would like to watch a movie about the life of Jesus from the Gospels with my children. What is the best one to watch with them? They are girls ages 3, 9, and 11. Of course this is more for the 9 and 11 year olds. They’ve only watched some basic animations before.

I’ve seen Jesus of Nazareth (the TV series), King of Kings, and the Greatest Story Ever Told. Though it’s been many years since I’ve watched them --I’m not sure which one would best or if there are even better ones to watch with kids. I know Jesus of Nazareth (1977) is extremely long, but we could watch it over the next three days if it is the best one. But I just read a bit about it on Wikipeida and it sounds like they took too many liberties. I appreciate all (name removed by moderator)ut. Thank you.

I love the film “Jesus” produced years ago by Campus Crusade for Christ! 🙂

I realize that many Catholics will instantly condemn it as “Protestant.” Well, too bad for them. It’s a good movie, and Jesus is portrayed as a loving and vibrant True God and True Man Who loves us and know that He was sent by His Father to save mankind from their sins.

There is a precious scene where a little girl meets Jesus and smiles up at Him and His return smile is so genuine and loving–I have never forgotten that part of the movie.

And He’s manly and strong and smiles so much!! The portrayal in Jesus of Nazareth is so eerie and slow and almost like a zombie! He talks and moves so slowly, and he looks so gloomy!

I think it’s the best film for children if they aren’t too young. The crucifixion is not nearly so gruesome as the one in Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ, but it’s still a sad part of the movie. So supervise, please.

Dr. Bill Bright (R.I.P.) was one of the Evangelical leaders who signed the Evangelicals and Protestants Together Document and offered his support of the movement. So he was certainly not “anti-Catholic.”

There are many times that I wish that the Catholic Church could come up with a little booklet like “the Four Spiritual Laws” that explains, in simple language and diagrams, the Catholic Church and how to become part of it. I think that many people are quickly discouraged by the length of many of the Catholic evangelical outreach booklets and pamphlets. There must be a simpler way to introduce non-Catholics to the Church of Jesus Christ.

As you can tell, I’m still respectful of Campus Crusade, and the current President of the organization is a member of the Protestant church that I grew up in.

Here’s a link about the Jesus Film Proejct, if you care to check it out:

“The MIracle Maker”. ABC showed it. The other day, Catholic radio gave it high recommendations. I think it’s at youtube. It is done in so-called “stop action” animation so that is a bit of how they filmed Gumby. Notice, it’s an ICON movie, they also did Mel Gibson’s “The Passion”.

I’ve read some, have wanted to watch it all. It was recommended by a show on Catholic radio but wait! No Mary, Mother of Jesus-God in it? I do know, it was a bit of a tv special.

Prince of Egypt is about Moses I believe. They were just talking about Easter movies one can watch. I did watch Prince of Egypt, it’s been awhile though.
