I need help! My wife is actually willing to take me serious about maybe doing this the natural way. She is not willing to convert yet to the Catholic Church but she is willing to consider what I have to give her about NFP. Please hook me up with the best information about it, and all the options that you have. And some statistics of its reliablilty would really be great.

Those of you here have never failed me when I have asked for help. I am sure you will be there for me now.

I am praying very hard that my family and I convert to the Catholic Church. My wife is not for it now, but I hope to gradually bring her home with me. But I did promise I would get her some good information about NFP.

Thank you all in advance! Please pray for me and my family!

www.omsoul.com - the best site for general NFP resources (books, pamphlets, tapes, testimonials)

www.ccli.org - sympto-thermal method through the Couple to Couple League. This site also has lots of stats on effectiveness.

www.creightonmodel.com - creighton model of ovulation only method

www.boma-usa.com - Billings model of the ovulation only method

also go to forums.delphiforums.com and visit the forum NFPTalk, which is a web board of NFP users (men & women)… mostly catholics, but not all.

Books you can purchase: The Art of Natural Family Planning (Kippley), Taking Charge of Your Fertility (Weschler).

Good luck.

Those are all great resources. We used CCL ourselves. Good luck and we’ll be praying for you. You and your wife will be amazed at all you learn and how this will change your lives!! :blessyou:

I second 1ke’s recommendation of Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It’s an approach to NFP that isn’t based in the teachings of any one religion (this might be helpful to your wife if she’s not ready to convert), but rather based in science and the promotion of better health for women.

I purchased this book to teach myself sympto-thermal NFP, as I was uncomfortable about attending a class at my parish because 1) I had been on the Pill, felt guilty, and didn’t know how other people in the class would react, 2) my husband was balking at attending a class that he thought would be weird, and 3) the parents of some of my high school friends teach the class at my parish. The book has been a great resource. It’s very well written and easy to follow, and has loads of information that every woman should know about her body and her menstrual cycle. Quite frankly, the first time I read through it I became very angry when I realized how clueless most of us women remain about our own bodies.

Of course the helpful thing about attending a class is that you can always contact the instructors with your questions. I’m lucky in that I have “textbook” cycles, even after going off the Pill. If I were irregular the class probably would have been more helpful, and it probably would have been fine anyway if I wasn’t such a big baby.😉

Thanks SeekerJen for sharing.your story. Modesty is good, and shows we care. I think most instructors are careful not to embarass anyone. If all you do is sit and listen, that’s fine. Instructors will certainly not publicize any private information in class, so coming off the pill should not be classroom knowledge, but it can help the instructors. Just be glad you did!

I recommend taking classes if you can. It’s easy to ask questions (instructors have heard most already) and help clarify concepts or rules that aren’t clear to you.

I haven’t taught anyone I know well, yet. A few couples from my employer is as close as I’ve come. I can understand how that can be uncomfortable. You can always check if there are other local teachers. Otherwise, I still recommend coming to class. Share what you are comfortable with with your instructors.
