Looking for Mary: Or, the Blessed Mother and Me
by Beverly Donofrio

I happened to come across this book while browsing an online bookseller. If I am to believe the reviews, this book is bringing back lapsed Catholics and drawing Protestants closer to Ecclesia Sancta Mater. Has anyone read this book, know about it, and have an opinion as to its orthodoxy? Any comments would be appreciated.

***JUST ***read it and liked it a lot. Gut-wrenching, honest, it dosn’t pull any punches. Donofrio may never be a perfectly-orthodox Catholic but I welcome her back to Mother Church (hey I just renewed in 2002 after a 26-year absence)

i don’t know who beverly donofrio is. at first i thought you were talking about beverly d’angelo (the mother in all the vacation movies with chevy chase 😃 ) but then i remembered her name. who is this and why are we welcoming her back? did she leave?

I loved the book because it is very honest. I think it is a wonderful story.

My college age daughter bought it for me so I read it. I winced in some parts, but I agree that she is very honest and so I think that it is was helpful for me to know how someone wants to believe but is held back by our society. I really wished I could explain a few things to her.

But a good story and if you grew up in the 70’s, you just might know some one with as sad a life story.

I do. They are my dearest childhood friends.
