I am self employed and so am faced with the idea of tithing not only gross or net - but also before or after benefits.
As an employee, my gross pay did not include any of the “gifts” from the employer in the form of medical insurance, life insurance, etc. Yes these have value also. And even though one might tithe 10% gross as an employee, the company owner is paying 7.5% FICA. That’s a significant amount of extra money in the paycheck.
As a self employed person, I pay for these benefits myself - and so my “gross” is different than “gross” as an employee. ALSO, I pay all 15% for FICA as compared to only 7.5% for FICA as an employee.
It’s a dilemma, and I am not able to pay true 10% gross as a self employed person.
