How did we get and develop the thing that in three years of Mass, one will have gone through the entire bible? Why do we do it that way? Thanks and God bless.
Apparently, the Scripture readings in the synagogues at the time of Jesus were based on a three year cycle. The Hebrew ‘lectionary’ provided for a continuous reading from the Torah and also a passage from one of the prophets.
This is the reasoning behind the change in the readings.
