I have read a past inquiry for reading the Bible in 90 days. Each Catholic Bible is a little different, so I took the number of pages from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelations and divided it by 90. Mine is a study bible so it has a few extra pages between sections. I had 1582 pages divided by 90, averaging 17 1/2 pages per day. I chose to read 17 pages one day and 18 pages the next. This included study materials, pictures and maps. If you want to be more specific, you can count all the non scriptural pages and subtract them from the total and divide by 90. I chose to take the easier route. Again the purpose is to read the whole story through. I have also studied the Bible Timeline/ Ascension Press through my Church Bible group. It is a Spiritual exercise so pray before reading and talk to God during the process. Your parish is a good support if you have any questions along the way and the Catholic Catechism has many sections that relate to the Bible as well. Through sermons, Bible study, Catholic authors, prayer. the sacraments, the intercession of the Holy Spirit, and opening your heart - the Word of God will become more understandable and you will develop a closer relationship with Jesus. God’s blessings on you!

When I first set out to read the entire canon, I tried a similar approach…it was a disaster…for about 3 days all was well…then after missing 2 consecutive days I needed to do three times the reading to catch up…I made that for another day…kept slipping further and further behind…it became a burden like trying to pay off a high interest loan…to keep up, my reading was not comprehensive, it was just a race to turn pages instead of pondering the word…a year long plan was not much better.

I soon found speed and schedules taking away from my communion with God through His word, which is what I wanted.

I gave it up and started a prayerful reading each morning before the day got busy…sometimes I spend 30 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes…depending on my prayerful reading…In the last 11 years, I may have made it through the entire bible maybe once…I know I have read through the Gospel probably 2 dozen times, and the rest of the NT at least 8 or 9…as for the old testament, I’ve made it through the Pentateuch a few times, the prophets a few times, and the rest maybe once.

Don’t rush it…just read it and savor it!

No problem. My response was just for someone who wanted to skim through the Word perhaps while doing a more in-depth study. Everyone reads and comprehends at a different level. Sometimes we all just need to consider certain passages and how they apply to our lives.

I stick to a 3 chapter a day schedule. This has allowed me to read the Bible several times from cover to cover, over the course of a single year.
It means setting aside 15 minutes a day, which is manageable after work. I have followed the example of others, using a different translation as a began a new year.
When my brother died, I picked up a read the New Testament over Lent schedule.
