Christ the King Catholic Church, Ann Arbor Mich is having a bible study on the Book of Revelation led by Dr. Peter Williamson, associate Professor at Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit Mich. on Sunday mornings between our 8:45AM and 11:15AM masses.
Today among the interesting points was the discussion about Chapter 1:4-5
" from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us 5 from our sins by his blood,"
This is the Trinity, God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, God the Son. The tie-in of the Holy Spirit is “seven spirits before his throne”, seven in referrence to the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit and the 7 as a biblical number representing “perfection”.
Also, at Easter Vigil, prior to the Eastert Candle being lit, the priest says: the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end for all times or something to that effect. This of course is about our Lord Jesus Christ, but vs. 8 says:
"8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” 6 says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.” This is in referrence to God the Father.
Chapter 4 vs 8 also echoes this:
"The four living creatures, each of them with six wings, 8 were covered with eyes inside and out. Day and night they do not stop exclaiming: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and who is, and who is to come.” "Latter-on in verse in verse 11 the one seated on the throne is:“Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things; because of your will they came to be and were created.” This is God the Father.
Also the point was made that the line: “the one who is and who was and who is to come” is similar to “I am who I am” in the Book of Exodus.
