Hello all,

There are so many learned Bible readers and theologions on this forum. What a blessing and great source of learning it has been to me in my faith journey.

I was hoping to start threads with specific bible chapters to be discussed. I would like for everyone to read the chapter then discuss away on it.

I hope to learn a lot. I am sure that I will.

lets start with Romans chapter one. I will post chapter 2 in a few days.

God bless!

Paul seems to be indicating that homosexuality was born of self worship of humanity.

Was there a problem with homosexuality in the roman church at the time?

In Greek Philosophy homosexual love between an adult male and a young pubescent male was considered the greatest expression that physical love could make. Wives were for having children, but men with other men was the true expression of love. Roman culture mirrored the Greek.

St. Paul is striking at the heart of common thought in Romans 1. Homosexuality isn’t the best love can offer, to the contrary it is abhorrent.

As santaro75 points out “homosexuality was born of self worship of humanity.” Greek and Roman mythology is a humanizing of divinity where sexual promiscuity is dominant.

St. Paul, like St. John in his introduction to his gospel, takes on the popular ideas of the day and boldly shatters them with the good news of Jesus Christ.

my 2 cents

Hi,
What a great idea!👍
It probably was(homosexuality) because of how God handled it.
What I got out of it is that these people Paul is referring to would not listen to the truth about God and decided not to obey Him so He darkened their hearts and turned them over to their lustful desires. This was God’s wrath against mankind. His wrath is not limited to end times as we have already seen(the flood). God gave them over to homosexuality because they chose not to follow Him. IMHO I think the key word there is chose. They chose a lie over God. God is just therefore He let their minds continue in depraivity. Ane as we know, it is still going on today and Im sure will continue until the end.😦

Thanks for the bible study:D

Yes 😃

In the thanksgiving discourse verse 8-14 I am really touched by Pauls sincerety and love for the church. I believe that all of our priests should praise us like that as a Father to its children.

“God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in proclaiming the gospel of his Son, that I remember you constantly, always asking in my prayers that somehow by God’s will I may at lasst find my way clear to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may share with you some spiritual gift so that you may be strengthened, that is, that you and I may be mnutually encouraged by one another’s faith, yours and mine.”

He really loves his flock!

The ONLY problem with this statement is that the Romans are not his flock yet. Remember that this is the only letter of his that was written to a church that he hadn’t visited yet. They would soon become his loving flock, but not yet.

With that said, he does love and admire his soon to be flock!!!
