Is anyone doing a Zoom Bible study? How is it working for you? We are supposed to start ours in September, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be doing that in person.

We are supposed to start one today - I’ll post later, and let you know how it went. We are trying Google Meet for the software - it sounds good so far.

OK - we had the Bible Study via Google Meet, and it went very well. I’m impressed with the app itself - the video and audio were better than I expected, except for the “human errors” of speaking too softly when questions or comments from the participants were made. We did not use the “presenter” option - anyone could speak, spontaneously, without any clicks from anyone (presenter or participants) - which was what I hoped for. We had a small group (8 or 10), but some said they were going to invite others, so it may grow.

There were two using iPhones, the rest used computers.
One person was wired for satellite internet, and her speed was insufficient for streaming - but she seemed content with only audio/no video. The rest had cable internet (speeds 200 or more, I think), which provided very good quality transmission.

But the folks were so very appreciative to “be back together again” after so long a dry spell because of Co-19. That made the whole experiment a great and beautiful blessing. (Our Bishop is not allowing any group meetings on campus except Masses and Confession, both adjusted to keep distancing and much space, both requiring facemarks and other precautions.)

We will continue, Lord willing. It’s not quite the same as “in person” together - but it is close enough!!

Yes.
We get mailed a link the morning of, we log on and it’s super easy.
However, it works best of the people who aren’t talking turn off their mic so there isn’t a lot of background noise.

What we do in mine is have the host (or co-host) mute everyone at the beginning of the meeting. Then people can unmute themselves whenever they have something to say.

That helps avoid the problem of people who might forget to mute, and don’t realize they’re creating background noise.
