I really happy to have found this forum. I was recently banned from a guitar forum for preaching religion & basically telling people that their bashing of christianity was not going to be overlooked by me.

Anyways, I have this friend named Justine, she is a nominal Catholic & she recently began attending a “non-denominational” bible study with a few friends of hers from work & see invited me to go with her about a month ago. I have yet to go because something is always coming up & I couldn’t make it last night because it was postponed. I was having a bad day yesterday so I guess it was for the best, but I was wondering if I should go or not. You see, I’m pretty well studied on the Holy Scriptures & I have on several occasions had to defend my Catholic faith in the midst of hot-tempered protestants as well as aetheist & agnostics. Justine tells me that sometimes her friends question her on why Catholics believe this or that & I have absolutley no patience for such things. I’m a fighter, & I can be very blunt & sometimes rude when I have to explain something to a bible thumper that is so stuck in the lies they were taught that I forget that we are in a christian setting. As it is I lose patience with Justine when she tries to share opinions as if the were greater than God’s Word or chuch doctrine.

I want to share the gift of wisdom God has given me, but could I do this surrounded by “x-catholics” & bible worshippers?

I was just wondering.
Anyone had good/bad experiences with bible studies?

I admire your heart for apologetics, but if you are going to engage in it one on one, a blunt and rude approach is not going to get you very far for God. James 1:20 says “For the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God” and Proverbs 15:1: “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

I would work on that a little in more non-threatening situations before you think of jumping in the lion’s den. In the meantime, I’d highly recommend a book found here on Catholic Answers called “How NOT To Share Your Faith.” Even in all my years of apologetics, it helped me a lot. Here’s a quick link:

If you approach a non - catholics beliefs , or anyones beliefs actually in a angry fashion you will get absolutely NOWHERE in convincing them that you are correct. You need to show that you understand their beliefs, but ‘THIS’ is what you believe, and ‘THIS’ is why. Ask them why they believe something. You will get futher approaching people in a friendly interested way. Show that you are interested in why they believe what they believe.

Or you could keep your mouth shut (sorry about the phrasing). Listen rather than talk. Rememebr you do not have to go back again, but your friend does.:whacky:

Thanks for the advice, I’m hoping I can remind myself that people that attack the Catholics do so because they have been taught to do so by their pastor & preachers which is awful. I’ll do my best to be a loving brother, but I will always defend my Mother the Church in all circumstances. 🙂
