Has anyone here heard of Community Bible Study? www.communitybiblestudy.org

I was wondering if the material is appropriate for Catholics?
If you’re not familiar with this particular Bible study, what should one be aware of when choosing a Bible study so that one does not run into information that is contrary to our faith?

It does not appear to be Catholic, which means that there will be quite a few instances where what is discussed/taught is not in conformance with the teachings of the Church. The risk is thatyou will not always know and could be led down a path inconsistent with your Catholic beliefs.

Choose a Bible study that’s put on by Catholics! Probably the easy way to know is check the background of the teachers, are ask what Bible/books they cover. The Catholic-based bibles are unique (Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Maccabees, etc.).

Is there a reason why you can’t attend a Catholic bible study group? I would expect that every diocese in the US has at least one large bible study group and in my experience, most parishes have smaller ones. Have you investigated diocesan-approved alternatives yet?

There are so many great resources for Catholic Bible study in our day, there is no reason to resort to a Protestant one. If there isn’t a Catholic Bible study in your area–start one!

For more information on getting started in reading the Bible from a Catholic perspective and finding resources, I humbly suggest you visit my website, linked below.

The reason I ask is twofold. First I wanted to see if I should be advising a Catholic friend to avoid this or not.
Second it was that I was considering going as many of my friends say how great it is, and tell me there are Catholics leading some of the groups. It is during the day and supposedly has a great program for children as well. I will go ahead and try to find an alternative for myself, however.

The risk is great that they will not accept your views unless you conform to them. Even agreeing on the essentials will be sticky. Make a Catholic one and invite them to yours!
